In a show as unpredictable as “Game of Thrones,” we watch our favorite characters die or get scarred for life. Meanwhile, those in the backdrop at the beginning of the series would later on emerge in more important roles. This comes with a lot of changes for the main cast as well. Here are some of them.
In season one of “Game of Thrones,” Sansa Stark was that lovestruck and innocent pre-teen who had no idea what she would go through later on. She hoped on Joffrey Baratheon for true love and a fairytale happy ending, but ended up with the complete opposite. Cersei would turn against her father Eddard Stark and Sansa would quickly wake up to how cruel the world really is when she was forced to watch her own father get beheaded. After looking for love, she would later on become a prisoner to Joffrey’s whims and torment.
However, in season six, Sansa grew up to be a tough woman and she is now fully aware of what the world has for her. She has been matched to two different psychopaths. Her wedding night rape by Ramsay Bolton pushed Reek to help her escape Winterfell. Sansa is no longer that innocent beauty in season one and, now, she knows what the world and men in particular want from her. What this innocent beauty turned tough woman has in store in Season 7 remains to be seen.
Jon Snow had always been that tough and suave character since the first season. Being new to the Night’s Watch back then, he knew very little of how hard it will be for him later on. Jon Snow was thought to be a favorite and the least likely to die, but he would later on go through some of the most messed up things in the show.
By the end of season 6, Jon Snow transformed into a seasoned warrior and even literally rose from the dead. His controversial lineage will also be revealed — and his Targaryen roots have fans rooting for him for a possible seat in the Iron Throne. Having gone through a lot, what he ultimately will be remains to be seen in season 7.
In season one, Bran Stark was a young and happy boy who was always eager to train with his brothers at various skills. While he was agile enough to scale the walls of Winterfell, he chanced across Cersei and Jaime Lannister getting intimate at the side of a tower. Bran gets pushed out and gets paralyzed from the waist down, but this is when he discovers that he has immense power.
Bran has always been a mysterious character and no one would ever know what is going on in his head. In the recent seasons however, his deepest thoughts and sentiments would be revealed. Bran has truly grown into a fine young man and still is no doubt, one of the most powerful characters on the show.
Although small in size, Tyrion Lannister was truly the character that everyone was excited about in the first season. His character just possesses too much charisma. While he is a mere spectator in the affairs of the ruling family, he has his way of disciplining his spoiled nephew, the then King Joffrey Baratheon. Viewers got worried when his face was slashed with a sword, but Tyrion rose above this and still is one of the show’s most influential characters.
In season six, his journey would be marked by betrayal on all sides. But being the witty imp that he is, he has always found his way around.
Daenerys started out as a sweet and innocent lass who was sold by her brother for a pot of gold. He would later on get it from Khal Drogo, except that such pot of gold would be melted and poured on his head and cause his death. After her husband died, she would emerge as the Khaleesi, leader of the Dothraki. She becomes promising and worthy of praise when she survives the burning incident.
By the end of season 6, Daenerys would have gone through a lot. Although she does not always exercise the best judgment, she is praised for being tough willed and headstrong.
