Every single year, there are a lot of films that are being filmed and being released, but unfortunately, not every film makes it into the box office. There are particular films though that are just so iconic, that no matter how many times you see it, you would want to see it over and over again. One of the reasons for it is that there are characters in the films that are just too good not to get noticed.
Actors are often offered to do a specific role, or sometimes they audition for it. However, not every actor could connect and put their characters into life. In this article, we will be tackling about some of the most amazing portrayals in films history, wherein these actors seem like they were specifically made for their roles, and here are some of them.
“The Avengers, it’s what we call ourselves, sort of like a team of ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ type of thing. Let’s do a head count here: your brother, the Demi-God; a super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breath-taking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins; and you big fella, you’ve managed to piss-off every single one of them.” – Tony Stark in The Avengers
ROBERT DOWNEY JR. – Iron Man
In 2008, the very first Iron Man film was released, and it was such a massive hit and it even earned more than $500 million at the box office. One of the reasons is because of Iron Man actor himself, Robert Downey Jr.
According to their director Jon Favreau, he specifically chose Downey because of the actor’s similarities with Iron Man, and Downey is a fan of the comics as well. Favreau faced criticism for choosing Robert Downey Jr. but insisted on casting him, and he indeed made a perfect choice. Downey appeared in numerous Marvel Films as Iron Man, such as the Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Unfortunately, Robert mentioned in an interview that the Avengers: Infinity War might be the last time he will put on his Iron Man suit.
JOHNNY DEPP – Capt. Jack Sparrow
Next up is one of the most phenomenal actors of all time, Johnny Depp. Out of all the iconic roles that he portrayed, there is one that simply stands out, and that is by being everyone’s favorite pirate, Capt. Jack Sparrow. We all know how there isn’t exactly any other pirate film nowadays, except for the Pirates of the Caribbean.
According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, he rejected the idea first since it might just be a straight pirate movie. The very first ones to get cast was Johnny Depp and veteran actor Geoffrey Rush. No one really expected that Johnny Depp would actually make an amazing impact on the role since there hasn’t been a successful pirate film since the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is actually the ninth highest-grossing film of all time.
HUGH JACKMAN – Wolverine
Before the Avengers took over the big screen, there are the X-Men. In the early 2000s, the X-Men film series by Bryan Singer was the epitome of sci-fi action films, and one of the most famous X-Men is Wolverine, which is portrayed by Australian actor, Hugh Jackman. There have been numerous X-Men films, and some of the characters were portrayed by different actors over the years, but only one remains the same. Unfortunately, Jackman said in an interview that the film Logan will be the last film that he will portray Wolverine.
HEATH LEDGER – Joker
If you haven’t noticed, the previous actors portrayed the protagonists in the films, however, this next one was just so iconic and perfect for the role that people loved him even if he was the bad guy.
Heath Ledger literally transformed himself into one of the most popular villains in film history, the arch nemesis of Batman. He said in an interview how he actually locked himself in a hotel room, wrote a diary, and experimented with voices along with some iconic laughs, just so he could totally be a psychopath just like Joker. Unfortunately, the role got to him so much that his body began to suffer, Ledger was found dead even before the film was released.
“Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick, you can’t savor all the little emotions. You see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are.” – The Joker
It is pretty amazing how they could perfectly cast an actor to play a particular role. There are a lot of actors who regrets playing a role in some of their films, some of the reasons may be that the film itself was just not good enough, or they are just not into their roles and couldn’t really connect with it.
As an actor, once you are cast, you will then begin to own your role, and once you start filming, you become your character. These actors above proved that they were just portraying the role that was given to them, they made sure that they would become the role and that no one else could play that role better than they do. They did it so brilliantly that when people think of the character, they would think of the actor. Then sometimes, people don’t even recognize them by their real names, instead, people know them by that particular role they played.
