Last time Ellence featured in a comedy show was back in 2003 when she appeared in her daily talk show. In a Twitter exchange, Netflix asked her to record a comedy show for the streaming giants. In a statement Ellen gave via Netflix, she said that she didn’t appear on comedy stage from last 15 years and now she can’t wait to be back on stage again. The comedy star also said that she will update the time and location for her Netflix recording. The US TV star further said that she is excited for her fans who will be able to see her again on Netflix. Ellen is coming back on TV again may not be the biggest deal, but she is appearing on Netflix rather than HBO, which may be the biggest deal this time.
Ellen has a long history with HBO as she filmed half-hour special with the pay cable network in 1992. The partnership didn’t end here, as she also recorded multiple shows with HBO right after that.
It is also reported that Ellen’s show with Netflix is recorded by Telepictures which is the part of same HBO production family. However, this time, the US TV star is planning to record multiple shows outside Time Warner universe. And the shows included one for the Netflix and three for NBC.
Netflix is now stepping up to challenge HBO as the go-to TV destination. The streaming giant also signed deals with Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman, and Schumer. And it looks like Ellen’s deal with Netflix is due to the fact that all comedians are now the part of Netflix. One more thing, Netflix is also going to pay Ellen a huge amount of money as well.
