Adding to this number, a new lake was just recently discovered in Nepal by a couple of mountaineers. The Kajin Sara Lake, located in the Singarkharka area is also unique compared to all other lakes in the world. The lake is situated at an altitude of 5,200 meters above the sea level, making it the world’s highest lake. The Kajin Sara Lake replaced the Tilicho Lake located in the Himalayan nation which is present at a height of 4,919 meters. #1. PLITVICE LAKE IN CROATIA
Located in the middle of the Plitvice National Park, the Plitvice Lake is known for its beauty and amazing waterfalls that make the lake look stunning in all seasons. The Plitvice National Park is the biggest national park in the Croatia and also the oldest one in the entire Southeast Europe. The lake displays vivid colors as the day progresses due to the different angles of sunlight falling on the water of the lake. The lake is a World Heritage and attracts almost 1.2 million tourists every year from all across the world.
#2. PINK LAKE OR LAKE HILLIER IN AUSTRALIA
The Pink Lake or the Lake Hillier is famous across the world for its pink color. The lake is situated at the Middle Island, one of the largest islands that together form the Recherche archipelago in Australia’s western part. The lake gets its color naturally and the reason is still unknown which is unlike many other lakes where the water turns red or pink due to the presence of algae that secretes beta carotene into the water.
Scientists have tried to sample the water of the pink lake in labs, but have not able to discover the reason causing this phenomenon. All they found was high amount of salt deposits in it. Lake Hillier spans only 600 meters in its size and the color can be very distinctively seen from the sky or by a boat. The lake is protected as a natural reserve and visiting the lake in person is absolutely impossible.

One of the most beautiful lakes found in Jiuzhaigou National Park in China, the Five Flower Lake is famous around the world and attracts thousands of tourists every single day. The lake is located at the end of the Peacock River and is 2,472 meters above the sea level. The lake reflects varied colors all throughout the day. The lake is shallow and is surrounded by beautiful trees all across its border. The water of the lake is crystal clear and has a little touch of red, green, blue and green. The water of the lake is so clear that you can see the bottom of the lake clearly.
#4. CRATER LAKE IN OREGON
When Mount Mazama collapsed, almost 7,700 years ago, it gave birth to Crater Lake a mesmerizing place to enjoy nature’s true beauty. Crater Lake is a lake caldera which has a depth of 2,148 feet and is ranked as the 9th deepest lake in the world. The lone feature present in the lake is a century old tree also known as the “the old man of the lake”. The lake looks absolutely magical at night, with a million stars shining upon it.
#5. LAKE WAKATIPU IN NEW ZEALAND
Surrounded by beautiful snow clad mountains on all its sides, Lake Wakatipu is a beauty for the sore eyes. The water in the lake rises and falls approximately 10 centimeters in every 25 minutes due to its standing tide, caused mostly because of its unusual shape. The lake spans across 80 kilometers and is almost 380 meters deep.
