According to a research, the traditional 8-hour sleep may not be enough for the human body as people spend 90% of their time sleeping in bed. Except for the 8-hour sleep, what effects do other sleep timings have on the body? According to a research of Penn State University, a human body needs 8 and half hour of sleep in 24 hours.
What’s the reason behind that extra hour? The research says that people spend 90% of their time sleeping and to make it 100%, they need to sleep half an hour more. Good amount of sleep is necessary but for how long do you need to sleep?
Zero Hours Of Sleep:
Staying away from sleep is like torturing the body. After staying awake for three days, a human being loses sense and the brain stops recognizing what is happening around. The whole human body shuts into microsleeps. The result of sleeping zero hours is eventually dead. Therefore, zero hours of sleep is not recommended.
Two Hours Of Sleep:
There is not a single human being on the earth who can stay alive sleeping just two hours a day. Sleeping for only two hours can be compensated on special occasions or emergencies but as a routine, never recommended.
Four Hours Of Sleep:
There are many politicians and CEO’s who show off that they sleep only four hours a day and that’s not true at all. For example. let’s take the example of the Greek-American author Arianna Huffington who said that she slept for only four hours and in the end, she collapsed. As soon as she recovered, she started taking proper sleep time. If you are a businessman or in charge of a company then it is highly recommended not to sleep just four hours. Sleeping just four hours a day is too dangerous not only for you but also people around you.
Six Hours Of Sleep:
There are plenty of people who lie in this category especially workers. Friday looks lucrative to most of the people and the reason behind this is the workload of past five days. Each day at office reduces your duration of sleeping and when a worker reaches weekend, he/she has plenty of sleep time to follow. Therefore it is recommended to increase sleep duration from 6 hours and ask for a flexible or home-based work.
Eight Hours Of Sleep:
Most of the physicians recommend 8 hours of sleep and is suitable for the body as well. One important thing to note here is that body clock varies person by person as Bill Gates needs 7 hours of sleep, chances are your body needs more.
Ten Hours Of Sleep:
Sleeping time greater than 8 hours is ideal for teenagers as they are recommended to sleep 9 hours or more in a day. Kids start their schools early and that’s what makes them lose their sleep. If a kid starts moving as late as 10 AM, then chances of illness reduce in that kid and also has a chance of doing good in exams.

Sleep also has a lot of misconceptions as some say that they will catch up the sleeping hours at the weekend. That it is Okay to sleep four hours a day. But according to a research, playing sound at a specific frequency while sleeping can help increase the time of deep sleep.
