Our world is constantly evolving! There are minor and major changes that keep occurring with or without knowledge. Over the years of earth’s existence, many species of animals and birds have become extinct, while there have been many other species that came into existence. The year 2018, saw almost 229 new species being discovered on the our planet. Well, here is a small list of some of the most interesting species that were discovered last year.
Japan Pig – Seahorse
The size of a jelly bean, this unique seahorse species has a very cryptic skin color that helps it blend with the algae covered reefs located in the Southeastern Japan. The seahorse, feeds on planktons and has just one pair of wings instead of two.
Tosanoides aphrodite
In the deep waters of the Brazilian archipelago, a unique colorful species of fish was discovered by a team of deep-diving scientist. The color of the fish was so enticing that the divers failed to notice a huge shark hovering above them. The new species was names as Tosanoides Aphrodite after the Greek Goddess of beauty.
Calliophis salitan
A new species of coral snake has been discovered in Philippines. The snake has a black and white banded body with a beautiful bright orange colored tail, different from the blue-tailed relatives that are widely seen in the region. The snake is named as Calliophis salitan and is one of the most venomous species of Asian coralsnakes.
Sky Blue Berries
By the side of the Samana Norte River, a small flowering plant grows which produces unique sky-blue berries. This species grow only near fast flowing rivers which also experience floods. According to the discoverers, the matured berry drops in the water and flows away only to get lodged in the crevice of the rocks and hence sprouting into a new plant.
Ophichthus naga
In Indonesia, discoverers found out a new species of the widely found moral eel which swims almost 1,500 feet under the surface of the ocean. This new species of the snake eel uses its burrowing tail to get into the mud of the ocean’s bottom. This new species has been named on the Buddhist deity that has great powers and looks like a dragon-sea serpent.
Planonasus Indicus
In the year 2018, 3 new shark species were discovered. These species dwell in the depth of the oceans, almost 3,000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. These species also includes the false dwarf catshark. These species are commonly caught and later released by the local fishermen who sail deep into the ocean to catch the gulper sharks. For these local fishermen, these species may not be a new discovery, but for scientists across the world, these new species are absolutely invaluable.
Selenopidae Spiders
Spiders are a dread for many people. But, a new species of these 8 legged creepers has been discovered that make the fastest spin with their legs. The new species belongs to the Selenopidae family make the fastest turn on their legs and now join the list of other species who belong to the fastest spinning spiders in the world.
